Santerre and Cretien Families Collection

Abstract

In the mid-19th century, immigrants from modern day Belgium, Switzerland, and France settled in north Texas in what is now Dallas. This collection includes materials from two such families, the Santerres and the Cretiens.

Scope and Contents

This collection contains personal family correspondence, ship tickets, stock receipts, and photographs, plus several fascinating French historical documents, possibly from A. J. Santerre, as a commander of citizen army during the First French Republic. A portion of the materials are the notes and research materials from White Cliffs of Dallas: The Story of La Reunion, the Old French Colony written by George Santerre in 1955.
